DESCRIPTION: The Category 5 breaks new ground for Hurricane. This is a kayak that wants to be paddled swiftly. The Swede Form Hull, sharp entry/exit lines and minimal Rocker gives the Category 5 a very streamlined shape. In terms of Efficiency, the Category 5 is slightly faster than a Tracer 165 on flat water.
Yet the Category 5 is surprisingly stable, despite its racy appearance. The Hull shape directly under the seat is a very shallow arch and this allows plenty of waterline width for a steady ride. Additionally, the full chines provide for reassuring secondary stability on edge.
Furthermore, the distinct transition region between deck and hull allows experienced paddlers to carve quick turns. The end result of this design execution is a remarkably steady and maneuverable kayak that can boast being the fastest in Hurricane"s fleet. The only compromise here is a decrease in Seaworthiness but in all fairness, this boat is not intended to be a Sea Kayak. The Category 5 is ideal for paddlers seeking an enjoyable workout for fitness or those who simply want a fast yet stable kayak for flatwater use.
