Here at GOPC, we know how much spending time outside can make a positive impact on our lives. That's why we want to spotlight a special program that we're participating in that brings that impact to kids in our community.
Triangle Land Conservancy's PINES (which stands for Pathways Into Nature and Environmental Science) program, focuses on the Knightdale area and is open to any Knightdale High School student that wishes to apply. The fellowship teaches students about conservation, introducing them to learning experiences, resources, and information about outdoor careers and providing them with experienced mentors and a cohort of peers to learn from and with. The students will gain experience with each of the four pillars of conservation: "safeguarding clean water, protecting natural habitats, supporting local farms, and connecting people with nature," according to TLC. Once they graduate the program, they'll have the ability to return as a senior fellow, passing on their knowledge to the next generation of students! Each student will be participating in various campouts and trips this summer and throughout their time as a member of the programs, and will take what they've learned to continue with their conservation and outdoor recreating journey after the program is done!
To help this program and these students give back to their community, GOPC will be continuing to support the program by providing gear, free of charge, to all participating students!!
If you're curious about the adventures of the PINES fellows, check out our social media account, where we'll soon be featuring PINES students as they update us on what they've learned, their gear thoughts, their outdoor journeys, and more!
