What (or who!) first introduced you to the outdoors lifestyle?
My parents. Camping was a big part of my childhood. My family loved to travel to the National Parks during school vacations and to different campgrounds on the weekends. A favorite spot of ours was Merchants Millpond, where we would canoe to our campsite.

What's been your most memorable trip/outdoors experience?
My husband and I started doing “Vanniversarys” after we got married. We have done a handful, but heading to Utah and doing the five National Parks really stands out. We were without cell service for multiple days and just enjoyed lots of time outside, unplugged from the world. The desert is so different from anything in North Carolina and we had a blast! I highly recommend unplugging and living in a van or a tent for a week.

What first brought you to GOPC and what do you love about working there?
Great Outdoor Provision Co. was a familiar place when I moved to Winston Salem. I was new to the city, but had grown up shopping in the Raleigh store, so when I found myself in an unfamiliar city, it was comforting going to a familiar place with familiar vibes. I applied for a job and quickly felt like the shop was welcoming me in. I met most of my friend group through the shop community.

What has been your most special customer moment?
My favorite customer moment really spanned over multiple years. I had a customer, Nancy, who would visit me every Christmas, holiday, grandchild’s birthday, and we would work together to get gifts for all her grandchildren. She would call ahead and give me sizes and I would run around and hand select a few options for each child. Nancy would come in and would usually buy everything I picked! We really got to know and trust each other over the years. When her family and grandchildren visited Winston Salem, it was such a treat to meet the children I had outfitted for almost a decade.
